Day of Action FAQs

Download our checklist to help you prepare for the Day of Action on Friday, April 26th.

  • Each project is specific to the nonprofit that is seeking volunteers, but the tasks usually fall within the following perimeters:

    • Building/Construction

    • Cleaning/Scrubbing

    • Landscaping/Yard work

    • Organizing/Cataloging

    • Painting/Staining

    • Weeding/Planting

  • No, you have the option to volunteer for either a 1/2 day (4 hours) or a full day (8 hours). If you are only available to work a 1/2 day, you can select AM or PM hours.

  • In order to provide the best experience for our volunteers, we ask everyone to register in advance so that our committee can match your interests with the available opportunities. While you are welcome to come on the day of the event, and we will do our best to place you, we strongly recommend you register in advance, if at all possible.

  • There is a section in the online volunteer sign-up form where you can note a preference you may have to be placed at a certain nonprofit. While we cannot guarantee placement (especially if they did not sign up for a project site that year), we will do our very best to prioritize your preference.

  • We try to place everyone within the county specified on your volutneer registration form.

  • You are more than welcome to participate as both a group of volunteers, and also register as a project site.

You will need to complete two separate registration forms. One form for your group of volunteers and another as the organization to register your project site or volunteer needs.

  • On the day of the event, you or a representative for your group must visit one of our registration tables to drop off your signed Volunteer Consent and Release Forms and pick up your goodie bag and Day of Action commemorative t-shirt(s).

We will provide protective eyewear, work gloves, a mask, one bottle of water, and snacks in your goodie bag.

Registration tables will be open from 7:00 AM - 10:00 AM. Locations will be determined in the coming weeks.

  • The Volunteer Consent and Release Form must be completed prior to participating and either be emailed to info@svuw.org in advance or turned in to the registration table when you check in on the day of the event. Hard copies will also be available at the tables.

Please dress appropriately for the weather and consider whether you will be outside or indoors for the majority of the day.

We suggest wearing comfortable, loose-fitting clothing and sneakers or work boots.

Please bring any additional tools or personal items (such as medications and extra water) that you may need throughout the day.

Unless specifically asked, the tools you need will be provided by the project coordinator at your work site.

  • We suggest bringing a packed lunch in a cooler, but some project sites have provided food for volunteers in the past.

Please confirm with your project site coordinator if they will or will not be providing your group with lunch.
