A New Year, a United Resolution.
By Steve Keifer, Board President
We all have habits we’d like to improve. As we enter the new year, many of us focus on breaking old patterns that may hold us back from personal growth and well-being. But beyond personal resolutions, there are also opportunities to adopt habits that bring purpose, energy, and fulfillment—especially when we can support those who may face greater challenges than ourselves.
Did you know that one organization in our Valley is helping to strengthen our communities by supporting 56 nonprofits with financial resources and developmental programs? The Susquehanna Valley United Way makes it easier than ever to make supporting your neighbors part of your New Year’s resolution. And, if you prefer, you can choose to designate 100% of your donation to a specific nonprofit organization. The need is urgent, and your donations—whether in time or money—are vital to the well-being of so many. Plus, 99% of every dollar donated stays right here in our local communities, benefiting those who need it most.
How can you help? It’s simple. You can visit our website at svuw.org/donate or mail your donation to PO Box 559, Sunbury, PA 17801. Every contribution counts, and recurring gifts can make a significant impact as we work to care for one another throughout the year.
Did you know there are nearly 475 Leadership Donors in our area—community members who believe in the mission of Susquehanna Valley United Way so much that they contribute $500 or more annually to the campaign? These are individuals who understand the privilege of having more resources and want to use them to make a positive difference. We believe there are more people across our five counties who would like to join this group of community champions. Consider this your personal invitation to help lead the way.
In January, there is also another simple way to support SVUW. When you shop at Weis Markets, you can “round up” your order at checkout to help support the campaign. We consider ourselves very fortunate to have Weis Markets, Inc. as one of our biggest sponsors. We appreciate them and all the other local businesses who continue to show their support in many ways.
There’s no doubt that 2025 will bring new challenges and opportunities. We each have the power to make a meaningful difference in our community. By resolving to take united action, we can help brighten the future for everyone in our area.
