Empowering Youth

Local Youth Nonprofit enhances academic and mental health services at new location.

For the Cause, a youth-led nonprofit organization, expresses sincere appreciation to the PPL Foundation and Community Giving Foundation (Bloomsburg Affiliate), for their generous support, marking a significant milestone with the opening of a new center at 36 E. Main Street Bloomsburg, PA.  The combined funding will play a crucial role in implementing For the Cause’s Education Expansion Development Program, aimed at enhancing opportunities for local youth.

This achievement is a testament to the vital collaboration of the Susquehanna Valley United Way, which played a crucial role in helping For the Cause establish and operate the new center by providing funding and essential educational and mental health resources to youth in the Bloomsburg Area.

“We are proud to support For the Cause Teen Center and their youth-led mission,” said Adrienne Mael, President and CEO of Susquehanna Valley United Way. “From workforce readiness and substance-use prevention to food security and mental health support, having one place for teens to feel welcomed and comfortable is essential for our local communities. It is a huge win for the Bloomsburg community to now have a For the Cause Teen Center to support our youth.”

The PPL Foundation’s Energizing Education grant is a boon for local youth facing academic and mental health challenges.  This transformative grant empowers For the Cause to implement comprehensive programs, providing targeted academic support and crucial mental health resources at the new center.

“By addressing these needs at the center, we aim to uplift and empower local youth, fostering an environment where youth can thrive academically and emotionally,” said Teresa Peters, Regional Teen Center Director. “The grant acts as a catalyst for positive change, ensuring that every young individual in our community has the tools and support needed for a brighter and healthier future.”

The Education Expansion Development Program encompasses academic services such as tutoring, homework assistance, mentorship, and mental health initiatives, including counseling and therapy services, drug prevention, mindfulness and stress reduction programs, as well as art and expressive therapies.  This aligns with For the Cause’s mission to create positive and lasting impacts on the lives of the youth it serves.

Special recognition goes to the Community Giving Foundation’s (Bloomsburg Affiliate] for their valuable assistance with the new center’s cosmetic appearance, enhancing the welcoming and positive environment for the youth.

Danielle Pearson, Teen Center Director, shared her enthusiasm, saying, “I am beyond excited to be part of the Teen Center for another year, focusing on our amazing youth in the community while bridging the gap between my role with the Bloomsburg Area School District and the Teen Center.”

As part of its commitment to holistic youth development, For the Cause will offer one-on-one drop-in counseling services with the Bloomsburg Area School District’s Prevention Specialist. Additionally, it plans to offer a variety of therapeutic activities aimed at providing diverse and impactful support to the youth it serves.
