Meeting Winter Needs with Dignity: Our New Partnership with the CommunityAid Foundation
This season, we’re proud to share a new partnership with the CommunityAid Foundation, one that helps families and individuals in our community meet urgent, everyday needs with dignity and respect.
Through this partnership, Susquehanna Valley United Way is now able to provide Care Cards to the families and individuals we serve. These CommunityAid store shopping vouchers help families purchase essential items like warm winter coats, properly fitting clothing, and new shoes for children who’ve outgrown theirs, often at moments when budgets are already stretched thin.
Why Care Cards Matter—Especially Right Now
For many families in our region, especially ALICE households (Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed), financial tradeoffs are part of daily life. These are neighbors who are working hard and contributing to their communities, yet still struggle to keep up with rising costs.
Winter only intensifies those challenges. A sudden growth spurt can mean a child no longer has shoes that fit. Cold weather can arrive before a paycheck can stretch to cover a new coat. Care Cards help bridge those gaps—meeting critical needs in a way that preserves dignity and choice.
This support is practical. It’s timely. And it reflects a simple truth: everyone deserves to stay warm, prepared, and confident - especially during the winter months.
Giving Back After the Holidays: Another Way to Support Local Families
The holidays often bring new gifts (and full closets). As families begin to clear out what no longer fits or is no longer needed, there’s a meaningful way to give those items new purpose.
Donating gently used clothing and household items to CommunityAid doesn’t just support sustainable reuse—it directly helps families in our community through our partnership.
Here’s how it works:
Donate gently used items at any CommunityAid location
At drop-off, provide: Partner #50366 – Susquehanna Valley United Way
Your donation earns credits for United Way that we use to support families and individuals in need through Care Cards and other essential resources.
Those credits help us respond quickly when families need winter clothing, shoes, or other essentials—turning donated goods into real, tangible support.

Different Ways to Give. One Community Moving Forward—Together.
Not every act of generosity looks the same. Whether through a financial gift, donated goods, or simply choosing to give with intention, each action helps strengthen our community.
This partnership with the CommunityAid Foundation allows us to meet people where they are—responding to real needs, at the right time, with care and respect.
Because when we come together, United is the way we care for one another.
