Dillon Floral Celebrates 150 Years in Business with a Floral Extravaganza.

Honors a multi-generational legacy by giving back to the community.

Dillon Floral celebrated 150 years in business with a Floral Extravaganza on Tuesday night hosted by the Columbia Montour Chamber of Commerce.

“All of us at Dillon Floral are honored to be joined by the Susquehanna Valley United Way and the Columbia Montour Chamber of Commerce in celebrating our 150th anniversary,” said Rob Dillon, President of Dillon Floral. “It is an opportunity for us to show our gratitude for all the support we’ve felt from our community, fellow local businesses, friends, and Team Members over the years.”

The Dillon business began in 1875 when John Lloyd Dillon, the son of Irish immigrant Patrick Dillon, began growing flowering and vegetable plants in a greenhouse on College Hill. They have been growing and wholesaling flowers for five generations and support over 400 retail floral professionals in Pennsylvania, New York, New Jersey, and Maryland.

“The work ethic and level of care from our team members, past and present, is the main reason we have been able to spread the beauty of flowers to so many for so long through our many professional florist customers.”

Dillon Floral (dillonfloral.com) was honored with citations and recognitions from the Columbia Montour Chamber of Commerce, the Town of Bloomsburg, David Kovach on behalf of the Columbia County Commissioners Office, Representative Robert Leadbeter, Terri Campbell on behalf of Senator Linda Culver, and James May on behalf of Congressman Dan Meuser.

With over 200 attendees present, the evening included light refreshments, a historical retrospective of the company, and a floral design show hosted by world-renowned Canadian florist designer Neville MacKay, owner of My Mother's Bloomers and Member of the Canadian Academy of Floral Art, Professional Floral Communicators - International, and the World Flower Council.

Sixty-one floral arrangements were created for the event and then auctioned off with the proceeds benefiting Susquehanna Valley United Way.

“It was a privilege to celebrate Dillon Floral's 150th anniversary and to be the recipient of their generous silent auction, which raised over $2,000 for our community,” said Adrienne Mael, President/CEO of Susquehanna Valley United Way (svuw.org). “The Dillon family's dedication to their community and commitment to giving back is truly inspiring.”

Guests also enjoyed a Flower Bar where they could design their own miniature bouquets to take with them at the end of the event. Scott Edwards of Scott’s Floral and Gifts in Danville, Megan Winters of Blossoms in Bloom by Megan in Bloomsburg, Nadeane Frey of Cerridwen’s Garden, and Ann Hoyson of Berwick Floral hosted the station and are also local clients of Dillon Floral.

Chris Berleth, President of Columbia Montour Chamber of Commerce (www.columbiamontourchamber.com), said, “At the heart of the Dillon Floral business model is a commitment to “exceptional personal care.” That model, coupled with a commitment to innovate and give back to the community, are unmatched, and make Dillon a prime example of what the Chamber and our business community value most – sustainable, vibrant communities. They’re to be commended!”
